These locks are meant to perform a very simple task....to make sure that YOUR wheels and tires stay on YOUR car instead of ending up on someone else's. I bought these as a gift for my son whose BMW has a very costly set of wheels and tires. Probably on the order of $2-3,000 to replace. How can you go wrong by spending a measly $40 to protect them?

I've seen several brands of wheel locks and these seem to be of a higher quality than most others. The packaging (blister pack) was easy to open and, for some reason, is actually re-usable.

The instructions (if you actually need them) are clear enough and the suggestion to order a duplicate socket is a good one. If there's one thing that you don't want to happen it's to not be able to find the socket when YOU want to remove a wheel to change a flat or rotate your tires. Having a spare available can save you a potential headache....assuming that you don't forget where you put it. :-)

Where to keep the socket is something of a dilemna. Obviously, it needs to be in the vehicle. Yet, a would-be thief, seeing the wheel locks, knows that the socket is in the vehicle. So, do you put it in the trunk, knowing that a determined crook can pop it open in about 5 seconds? I certainly wouldn't. Where I suggested my son put it makes it easily accessable but is not a place that a thief would look unless he was tearing the entire car apart. No, I'm not going to give away the hiding place, so just use your head and find one of your own which isn't obvious.

The kit comes with a few stickers that show the serial number of the lock set. One is for sticking on the order form for the extra socket when you register with the manufacturer. An obvious temptation is to stick one somewhere on the vehicle which really isn't a good idea unless you're the kind of person who also gives out his social security number. :-)

Works and fits a 2011 BMW 328xi Coupe. I compared it to one of the lug nuts I took off the car and the original was a little heavier, not sure it that makes a difference.

I have owned many vehicles in my lifetime and almost always installed wheel locks on all of them. Sometimes, I would buy the cheaper ones, but always had trouble with the life span of them and they are harder to use when installing or removing your wheels. No other brand, that I know of, comes close to McGard wheel locks. I also like the fact that they are made in USA. Save yourself a lot of hassle and buy McGard. Their customer service also can't be equaled. One time I lost the key (It doesn't look like a key, but I don't know what else to call it.} and I called McGard and I had a new key the next day. Now, that is service. There key system really works better than any of the cheap brands. I have never worn one out. They just don't slip off the wheel lock. This is one area where you really don't want to try and save money. In the long run, you will be very happy that you bought the best.
