We use a fair number of hog rings in connection with small sailboats -mostly 1/4" to 1/2" size in stainless. Those cheaper ones are just too big for the small hog rings and you can't get a good "squeeze" or crimp. These are perfect for the smaller rings.

I like to use Hog Rings for a variety of reasons, including whipping rope. After getting by with channel lock pliers for a while I decided to go 'whole hog' and get some real Hog Ring pliers. Most of the ones I looked at were either very cheap and flimsy or much more expensive. For $18 I decided to give these a chance and they're great. The grooves in the jaws hold the rings nicely and squeezing it closed forms the rings well.

The spring loaded pliers work very well. They hold the ring(s) well and crimp with little effort. Smaller rings must be found from a different source.
