First and foremost, definitely measure your intended location. I did some hunting all over the internet looking for dimensions and finally found them on a couple of sites to confirm before I purchased. The measurements above are accurate. This fits, just barely, on the back of my 2013 Touareg's back seat with a little bowing out in the middle. I think this has as much to do with the lack of support in the middle (which is fine) as it does with it being about 1" wider than ideal. I believe this will fit any full size SUV or pickup just fine and will probably fit most mid-sized models but nothing narrower.

Now, for the details.

This gun case has two long gun pockets, one high and one low, with a long detachable gun case in the middle held on by hook-and-loop fasteners threaded through a couple of plastic clips and looped back on themselves. It seems adequately secure even with a heavy gun inside. None of the gun pockets are very tall, so may not accommodate optics unless they are low profile. Additionally. the detachable scabbard is designed such that the barrel points towards the left (driver's) side of the vehicle, thus you need to load from the passenger side. I would have preferred the opposite. The other two cases are rectangular and, therefore, can be loaded either way. These will easily hold an AR-15 with collapsable stock and 16" barrel (M4 style) without mag or optics easily length-wise, and appears to be adequately roomy to probably accept an EOTech-style red dot or, probably, an AimPoint. However, since the rifles can be oriented with optics on top, and the only openings are dual-zippered, it would be possible to insert a rifle with optics in the cases and zip over the barrel and stock without actually fully enclosing the gun, as long as the optics aren't banging into something (like the gun above it). Not ideal, but. . .

The unit also has several mesh pockets perfect for putting magazines in, cleaning supplies, ammunition, etc. The insides of the pockets are sort of a soft padded sued-like material, not just bare nylon. In case you're wondering, the "Tan" has a bit of green but is close enough to the typical beige/tan interior of most vehicles that it shouldn't matter. Plus, it's on the back of the seat, so won't be all that noticeable.

The whole unit has an included metal rod made of two halves that slot together and inside of a tube/pocket running along the top with hook-and-loop closures at either end securing it. This is the only rigid part of the unit. It uses two adjustable loops with plastic quick-release buckles to loop around the rear seat headrests and support the unit on the seat. The bottom could be allowed to hang freely, though it comes with two plastic D-rings at the bottom and two bungee-style cords about 6" long each with plastic hooks on the ends to attach to the loop and, per instructions, somewhere under the rear seat. I think this could be done if you have enough room to reach under the seat and something to attach to, but I didn't have such luck, so looped them through the forward cargo tie-downs in the back and clipped both ends on the plastic D-rings. This permits the back seat to be completely folded flat without any problems, but also helps limit the flopping around of the bottom of the case. Once you've put it in once, you could pull it out in under a minute and reinstall it in under 2.

This is actually quite versatile. While designed for rifles, there's no reason it can't, and won't, be used for a lot of other things. Having the ability to keep stuff up off the cargo floor will be quite handy. Using more vertical space rather than floor space frees up the cargo area for actual cargo. Thus it will likely hang on the back of the seat all year rather than just hunting season.

Overall, good buy and worth the price of entry if you need this sort of space saving functionality. The only down side is that, being a "universal fit" unit, it's pretty much guaranteed to not fit as well as it should or could. It would be better if there were two or three sizes available to both fit better and to cover a wider range of vehicles.

I purchased this to protect the seat back of my FJ cruiser from scratches, and to provide extra storage for tools, car cleaning supplies, etc (not for guns, actually). I'm very pleased with the product, but it is very slightly too wide, and therefore doesn't hang down exactly straight, there is a little bowing in the middle. However, since I'm not carrying rifles or shotguns it's not a big deal. Do wish measurements were included of the product before I bought it.
