The U281 is a very simple CAN OBD2 code reader/eraser for Audi and VW cars. That is all it does read the codes and clear them.

The Good:

1: It works it can read the code (although not all apparently) and

2: It can erase them, turning the "Check Engine" light off.

The Bad:

1: It hangs. A lot.

2: It doesn't seem very good at getting the codes; the first time it claimed there weren't any, and the second time (30 seconds later) it only saw one.

3: You need to use the manual reference to look up codes, but...

4: The manual is incomplete. I used it on my 2003 Audi A4, which I bought in October 2002. I received this unit yesterday, Sept 2009. And yet it didn't have the code in the manual that I received. Seven years out-of-date? I did find the code online.

5: It can't set any of the other Audi parameters (radio, seat, climate, etc.) like more expensive units can.

Don't let the size of the "Bad" scare you away. You buy this to check that the Check Engine light is telling you something you don't care about and to turn it off for far less than the dealership would. It does do that adequately, and far more economically than any other choice.

Summary:

This is the cheapest way to quickly check the validity of the Check Engine light and turn it off. It's definitely worth the cost, especially since a more complete unit costs more than three times as much.

It doesn't work fully for my Seat Ibiza, for Airbag and ABS it was showing linking error..means communication issue though work for Engine Fault
