Cheap Glove Box Car Jump-Starter

If you have read the other reviews, you know that there is some debate over whether this works or not. Having tested this product, I will say that almost everyone is right on both sides of this debate. This is because there is confusion about what this product actually is and what it actually does. It is probably improperly described as "jump start" device. When you hook jumpers to your car from another car or from a portable jumper, electricity is sent to both the discharged battery and the engine. When the electricity goes to the engine, it allows it to start by sparking the gasoline. This product does not do that and is not designed to do that. So, technically, you cannot jump start your car with this. However, this does not mean that it will not help start your car if your battery is dead. This is because this is actually a battery charger. When you hook up Mighty Jump to your lighter, it is supposed to start recharging your battery. The electricity it is sending through the circuits to your battery is not enough at any moment to start your engine directly, but it is charging your battery. After 10-15 minutes, your battery may very well have enough current to start your engine. So, technically, it is correct to say that this will not work to jump start your engine. It could though recharge your battery, and this could very well get your engine to start.

This will only work though if your battery is capable of holding a charge or being recharged. If it is old and needs replacing, this product will do nothing for you. On the other hand, if you leave your lights on for a few hours and your car won't start, this could very well be enough to help you get it started.

Do you I recommend this? Only if you have a good battery and you can get this at a good price.

Do I recommend that you buy a more expensive portable jump starter instead? From my experience, they are not very reliable either. They are essentially just rechargeable batteries, probably very similar to your car battery. That means they will wear out relatively quickly. For the price, you could probably just replace your car battery. For that reason, the Mighty Jump at a smaller price point is very tempting.

In general, having a set of jumper cables would be your most reliable option particularly if you live in an urban setting with a lot of people around. If you are out in the middle of nowhere regularly, you might want to invest in something more versatile (and more expensive).

If you can get this at a good price, it would be a good option for just running down your battery from leaving your lights on. If you suspect that your battery is bad or is getting old, this will do nothing under those circumstances.

For any jump starter to work (including the Mighty Jump) the following conditions must be present:

1. The battery in the jump starter must be in good condition and kept charged. This is needed to charge up the car battery.

2. The accessory (lighter) socket must be in the "ON" position and the connection is good all the way to the car battery.

3. The car battery must be capable of retaining the charge from the jump starter. That is it must not be too old or incapable of holding a charge.

4. All devices using battery power (eg Head lights, rear window heaters, radio, cabin lights etc) should be switched off so as not to drain the limited battery power available.

5. Wait for the car battery to be recharged sufficiently to provide the cold cranking amperage that Aquabusa Jib mentioned in his review to start the car. This may take between 1 to 10 minutes depending on the battery power in the jump starter and how discharged the car battery is.

6. The car should start now (unless the starter motor on the car is dead!). Do not switch off the car engine during the first 15 minutes of driving to allow the car generator to at least partially recharge the car battery.

Remember to recharge the jump starter battery after use so it is ready for the next emergency. It can be achieved by leaving the jump starter connected for about 15 to 20 minutes while you are driving. It is good practice to recharge the jump starter battery at least every 3 4 months. All rechargeable batteries deteriorate over time and need to be replaced after a few years. It is time to replace when it will not hold a charge for at least a few days when not in use.

Jump starters do work if used correctly.

This product works fine. People need to READ the instructions and do as directed. I noticed many people have commented that they only wait 5 minutes for their battery to recharge. The directions clearly state to wait 10 to 15 minutes. Also, be sure your ignition switch is turned to the 'Accessory On' position. Otherwise, no electricity can flow to the battery. Do NOT leave the Mighty Jump in a car when the outside temperature plumets below zero, or it will lose its charge too. Bring it inside to keep it warm. Another tip. While driving home my battery light came on. I was able to get the car home. I turned the car off than tried to restart the car and nothing happen. when I told my roommate what happen she gave me the mighty Jump to try and jump start the car to go get a new battery. I had the might jump connected for 5 min and the car started right back up. I turned the car off and than back on but sadly it died again. I had a bad alternator. The main point of the store is that it charged my battery up enough to get it started. Which means that the product does work.

Installed on 1995 Nissan Maxima. Buying the Quick-Strut assembly is the only way to go. Did both sides in less than 4 hours, total, on driveway with $30 light duty hydraulic jack. (I am old hand at this stuff, so BE VERY CAREFUL when jacking and blocking car. Use only good quality jack stands or solid timber blocks. NO CONCRETE BLOCKS-they can explode and collapse) I used timber block (2 x 8's nailed together in stack) under frame at lower control arm pivot so tire was only and inch off ground. Once car is blocked up, it is only a matter of three nuts on top mount, two big bolts on lower control arm, and a brake hose clip. The top mount needs rotated for studs to match hole pattern in car, but I easily hit the studs on strut top mount with rubber mallet to rotate it. Be careful of brake hose. Cover brake disk with paper to keep crud dropping on it or getting touched by greasy stuff.

Car drives like new. The best local price was $200 from Advance Auto. NAPA was $240. Duh? Bottom line: I saved $70 each and didn't have to leave house to get them. Need to plan ahead to get free Amazon shipping because of time. I got mine shipped free in two days with Amazon Prime trial offer.

Would be easy 5-star, but the nuts that came with one strut were galvanized and would not thread onto studs without oil. Almost ruined one stud, had to clean thread with die to recover. Other strut was OK. Had factory style plating and went right on.

1998 Nissan Maxima GXE

UPDATE:

Changed a few steps around to better reflect what to do. Doing the right is pretty similar to the left.

The strut is a great idea. Everything assembled so all you have to do is:

Tools:

-Ratchet set plus extra wrench/ratchet to hold other side of bolt (3/8 I think and mainly 3/4 and something small for top nuts)

-Torque Wrench (optional, but good to have)

-Torch (if it's really rusty on the knuckle nuts)

-WD40 or similar lubricant (don't get any on the rotor!)

-Punch tool or something similar (to knock bolt out other side if it gives you trouble)

-Hammer

-Flat pry bar (may come in handy to move strut around if you find yourself stuck just be careful for cv boot)

-Pick or similar tool to scratch off rust and grease (small flathead works)

Removal:

-Take off your wheel (loosen lug nuts before jacking car up!)

-Using pliers, remove the brake line retention clip from the strut (just look for the hose attached to the strut. There should be a little piece fitting it in there that looks like a U bent curvey)

-Remove the two strut knuckle nuts located at the bottom of the strut (bottom left on amazon picture). I had a very hard time getting these off. Had to use a combination of heat from my torch can, WD40, a pic like tool to scratch away at grime around nuts, and a longer wrench than my ratchet to give leverage.

-Do your best to get the knuckle frame away from the strut (the cv joint takes a fair amount of wiggling, just don't hyper-extend it)

-Remove top three nuts from under the hood. (DO NOT REMOVE NUT IN THE CENTER OF THE TRIANGLE!!! This holds the coil in place...)

-Personally, I had to kick the strut out from off my cv boot (rubber black accordion looking thing). My boot was already ripped so I wasn't worried about ripping it more. This takes some patience and wiggling.

To Install:

-Put top part in first. I started on the left side of the wheel well and slowly got the top of the strut where it needed to go. This part takes alot of wiggling around to get it in place. I also had to push down on the rotor to get the knuckle over everything.

-Now this part is tricky and not even my haynes manual told me this: You have to adjust the studs (the three "Screws" that protrude up and under your hood) in such a way that they line up 60-90 degrees clockwise from where they should be. The best thing to do is look at how the bearing plate (the black flat piece on the top of your new suspension) angles and lines up under your hood (do this before putting it in). Each stud should line up according to height. Furthermore, there should be an "F" near one of the studs that symbolizes the stud that is furthest towards the front of your car. To adjust, get a wrench with a circular end and put it on the stud and move the other end all the way against another stud and rotate it.

-After you get the studs in the hole, secure them (helps if you have an assistant on this part) with a good hand tighten. You want them all the way on there to give yourself as much leverage on the bottom as possible.

-Using hand strength or whatever you can safely use, move the bottom of the strut so as to line up with the knuckle.

-Put bolts back in (I sprayed with lubricant first since mine were so hard to get off in the first place)

-Tighten to 46-56 Foot Pounds (pretty much hand tighten to the point where its not moving anymore, just don't overdo it.)

-Don't forget about the nuts up top in case you didn't tighten them completely. Same idea.

-Put brake line back in with clip. I couldn't FOR THE LIFE OF ME get that clip back on. I was forced to bend the strut piece together so that it kept the brake line metal brushing in place.

-Put wheel back on and such.

Few tips:

-Remember, if this is the first time this has been done, expect to encounter ALOT of resistance due to rust and... Well... 11 years worth of stuff built up!

-I always lower my jack down a bit after getting the wheel off. I don't like taking weight off of my back tire.

-Have your E-Brake on while doing your fronts. Not sure about the backs.

-Try not to grease your rotor up too much. You can always wipe it but remember: that's what your brakes squeeze against.

-An assistant is very helpful! the Strut is a good 35 pounds that you have to hold up, move side to side, wiggle, and apply constant pressure to to get the top nuts on. Even the strongest people will get tired having their arms above their heads.

-Double Check your work before putting your tire back on.

-If you bought for both sides of your car, there's a sticker on the non-amazon box with the model number and a perfect opportunity to mark "left" or "right" on it to avoid confusion. I don't even know if they're different. Better safe than sorry. UPDATE: These models feature an "R" and "L" on the piece that holds the brake line.

Taking the strut off was very easy.I could not line up the bolts when i put the new strut on.After about two hours of wrestling with the strut trying to line up the holes for the bottom two bolts.I put the transmission in drive and the bolts lined and the strut was on in ten minutes.I hope this helps someone when the changing the quik strut complete assembly on a 1998 maxima. Jack it up and put the transmission in drive and it is an easy job.

These are excellent easy drop in replacements. No spring compressors needed to remove the old struts on the car or to install these. NOTE: the mount that goes in the top of the wheel well will have to be rotated 60 degrees so the studs line up with the body of the car. One person can hold the spring while another rotates the mount at the top. It's not hard.

I have replaced the strut and spring assembly on my cars at least 5 times. For some reason, my last change was going horribly and I kept stripping the piston rod nut on the strut when I was putting it together. I literally almost died when the nut popped off. These things are a breeze, for an extra bit of money you save an incredible amount of time and hassle. They pop right on with all the components brand new. If your car has over 100k you might want to change the springs anyways, plus with the new mounts, seats and boots it really ends up being cost effective. I've tried it both ways and these Quik-Struts are just better in my opinion.

Maiden voyage with this was a 14 hour drive to NY. Usually when I get out of the car after that drive, my backside is numb. During the drive usually involves trying to shift my weight so I'm not putting pressure on the same place for 14 hours. This SAVED me!! So numbness or soreness!

I thought that it had a swivel but it's just nylon covering that makes it easier to turn & swivel & get out of the car. It's definitely easier than a cloth seat but not the swivel turntable I was expecting.

It is easy to scoot in & out b/c the fabric is slick; I have bucket seats, this fits neatly in between the sloped edges, so my mom gets in level now, and will definately be a huge aid to her getting in & out of the car. I think this is a simpler solution for her b/c she has Parkinsons & can't really use the swivel type cushions.

This is the very thing we needed! Mom is elderly and very affected by arthritis and she was having a hard time turning to get in and out of the car (velour seats I had trouble myself when wearing velveteen jeans!). I did thorough research and decided against the swivel-type cushions that have a stiff bottom, don't fit into contoured seats and require a precision landing, and went with this instead, and I'm very glad I did. Mom has a much easier time now in turning when entering and exiting the car, and says it makes all the difference in the world!

Bought for Honda Accord 2012...Good fit, good quality...u don't need anything more than this from a floor mat...better than the OEM Honda mats and cheaper too...love the lip around the liners, contains dirt, spills very well...definitely recommend...I heard WeatherTech liners are good too but why pay double the price...Only minor thing, as mentioned by previous commenter design around the gas door/trunk release wasnt appealing to the eye.

These mats are awesome. They are more of a tray design and you can tell they will hold a lot of liquid. I really like the design of the rear mats, since they cover the hump and I occasionally haul middle school boys with boots on in the winter they don't always keep directly on the floor, so these will help with that issue. They fit nice and tight in our 2012 Accord SE. My only negative, is what others have said, the mat is a bit high over the trunk/fuel door release controls no biggie.

Ordered these liners to fit my Honda accord and they fit perfect and was exactly what I was looking for. Well made liner and has a lip around the liner to catch any spills. The rear liner covered the center of the rear seat so they protect the whole area. Others have had comments about the lip around the trunk release but I believe was intended to protect that area and did not find this as a problem. Also husky liners are manufactured in the USA.

I love these seat covers. Dirt just brushes right off. My dogs ride in the back seat, and even their hair comes off easy. Feels velvety, and the turtles are very pretty sparkly metal studs, not rhinestones. Looks expensive rather than tacky.The floor mats are indoor/outdoor black carpet, and dont have very good ability to grip the floor, so they are sitting on top of rubber mats. They get dirty and the turtles get muddled. I may use them on the inside of my tailgate instead of the floor, as it would give dogs traction getting into the back of the truck that way , and stay cleaner. I would have only bought the steering wheel cover and the seat covers and not the mats if the whole deal wasnt such a good price. Wish it was offered with those items and rubber black floor mats. Still I am happy with my purchase. It made my truck pretty and feels like mine ;) Used them in a blue Tundra extended cab pickup. Used one of the little floor mats on the bench and a half because these are for bucket seats. Fit my passenger seat perfect and works for the driver seat without slipping fine. But you have to get something to cover that extra part of the bench. Back seat fit my back seat perfectly. Only reason i gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the floor mats not being rubber, and wish that it came with one bench and a half plus one bucket size cover. But I would get them again anyway. Very nice good quality for the price.

It was a slight pain in the butt to get the backseat cover put on. I have a 4 runner where the seats go down so I was able to tuck most of the extra in, can't imagine putting it into a car. Otherwise its super cute and soft!
